Inscription:
“Gratitude

The village was named for the steamboat Gratitude, which from 1888 to 1914 made regular stops here and in Centreville from the Light Street Piers in Baltimore. Before the advent of motor transport, steamboats opened remote towns to commerce, carrying passengers and Bay produce to urban markets. Sold in 1914 to a Virginia company, Gratitude ran excursions until pressed into service as a support ship for the U.S. Navy during World War I. Sold to a Cuban owner in 1926. The 150-year era of bay steamers ended in 1962.”

The marker is located in Rock Hall, Kent County on MD 20 east of Beach Road and was installed on November 14, 2016

I was in attendance when this marker was dedicated in 2016 and this photo is from that day.
