On April 4, 2024, the Denton Town Council passed a resolution “the importance of outdoor recreation, connecting communities, promoting health and wellness, and preserving America’s natural beauty”. This resolution also was to “support and promote the American Discovery Trail (ADT) as a national treasure.”

Nearly a year later on April 2, 2025 Denton becomes the first American Discovery Trail Town.
While many, myself included, are not aware of The American Discovery Trail it was first established in 1990. It is the only coast-to-coast, non-motorized trail in the United States that runs approximately 6,000 miles from Delaware to California, connecting diverse landscapes and communities.
The trail begins at Cape Henlopen, Delaware, and follows historic routes, including centuries-old Indigenous trails, before reaching Denton and continues to Ridgely, Tuckahoe State Park and towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
It continues toward Washington, D.C., before linking to the C&O Canal Path and extending west through West Virginia, Denver, and beyond.
