Many think of the best time to visit Maryland’s Eastern Shore is during the summer months. And yes it is a great time for beach and other water recreation activities. To me though the best time to travel the Country Roads of Chesapeake Country begins after Labor Day.
It’s a season of colors. The green fields and trees of summer can be a bit boring, since there are little color change. Not saying there is anything wrong with the world being green. Just to me the constant change of color is exciting.
First the corn field are turning brown, waiting for harvesting. The soy bean fields will soon follow. It takes a little longer, but even by the middle of October the color of the leaves will be changing as well. And for those who do like green, the pine trees will still be green.
And the Fall Festivals. Sure there are plenty of festivals during the summer, many of them in the small towns of Chesapeake Country. But I think those in the fall are something special. The darkness of the night may come sooner than in the summer, but the weather is cooler and visiting the vendors is much more enjoyable.
Three that I would recommend, and in full disclosure I am planning on attending, are Bluegrass and Brews on the Beach in Betterton on September 18 from 2-6pm. Bluegrass and Brews is being put on by the Sons of The American Legion, Squadron 246- Betterton, MD, and Betterton Volunteer Fire Company.
Every year on the 2nd Saturday in October, October 8th this year, is the Town of Rock Hall’s Annual FallFest where they celebrate the Oyster with a day of food and music. This year is the festival’s 25th Anniversary.
On the last Saturday in October, October 29th, in the Denton The Caroline County Chamber of Commerce will be having their third annual MactoberFest. It’s a Mac and Cheese festival with the area chiefs and food trucks vying for the award for the best Mac and Cheese.
Of course there are many others.
And as always I will be out Exploring and Photographing Chesapeake Country.
Enjoy your Chesapeake County Adventure
