Chestertown's Fountain

Historical Marker: Chestertown Maryland
Chestertown was one of my nearest drives since I’m there often living just outside of town. On Memorial Day Weekend since the 1970’s, until Covid shut it down in 2020 the town has held an annual Tea Party Festival. Legend has it that in May of 1774 a group boarded the British Ship Geddes and threw its cargo of tea into the Chester River. The Festival returns this Memorial Day Weekend after the two year hiatus. I took a walk downtown and shoot these photos of the quiet peaceful town that one usually enjoys. It’s a great historic and art town that you can visit any day of the week and anytime during the year.

Chestertown's Memorial Park
The above Historical Marker is located in the town’s Memorial Park. There are monuments there for every American War from the American Revolution to the current times.

Chestertown's Fountain
A landmark of the town is the Fountain in the center of the park in the center of downtown.

Chesteertown's Main Street - high Street
The Main Street of Chestertown is High Street.

Chestertown's Art and Entertainment District
Chestertown has a thriving Art and Entertainment District. The buildings in the photo is just a small part of it.

View - Chestertown High Street to the Chester River
During the Tea Party both sides for High Street will be full of vendors and people walking up and down the street. This is the more peaceful view of the street that ends at the Chester River.

The Docks at Chestertown
The Chestertown Wharf. The statue of the goose is in honor of the town’s mascot in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Lucy the Goose.

And here is what the town will look like on Memorial Weekend Saturday.

About Drives With Steve

Nearly three years ago I began doing a series of posts I called “Drives with Steve” on my photography Website, SGAtkinson.com. The idea was to take a drive from my home in Chestertown to an randomly selected location and take photographs along the way.

This eventually turned into the “Point of Interest” Series. Along the way I’ve captured a pretty wide range of photos. Check back each Sunday to see photos from a latest Drive. Although due to weather or other circumstances some may be of previous drives.

If you are wondering whether you can get a print of one of myphotographs. You sure can. Three sizes are available. 8×10 (with 11×14 Matt) at $25, 11×14 at $50 or 13×19 at $75. However, if you would like another size, I’m sure I can get one to you. Just send an email to photos@shoretobefun.com if you are interested in purchasing or have any questions.

You can support this project and see additional photos if many of these “Drives” at Patreon.com/ShoreToBeFun.
