Shortly after I began the Chesapeake Country Roads project I ventured out on my first trip with this project in mind. This sign is on the original Chesapeake Byway (Chesapeake City-Kent Island) that was established in the 2002 just a few miles north of Centreville.
This trip was to take a few photos along the MD 18 portion of the Byway. MD 18 runs between Centreville, to Queenstown, and then weaving around US50 to Stevensville. The Centreville to Queentown section was first paved in 1910.
When traveling South on MD213 Just before one gets to MD18 you’ll see the rear of the old Court House in Centreville. This view of the Statue of Queen Anne and the Court House is the view you’ll see traveling North on MD 213, which is a better view.
One of my favorite spots to stop at is the Fallen Hero’s Memorial. The Memorial is dedicated to emergency services workers who have given their lives protecting and serving Queen Anne’s County citizens. The Memorial was first dedicated in June 2003.
This is one of my favorites shot in April 2016.
Charles Willson Peale, American painter best remembered for his portrait paintings of leading figures of the American Revolution, was born in Queen Anne’s County.
Queenstown was the first County Seat for Queen Anne’s County and the Court House that was established there in 1708. The frame structure was the original Court House while the Brick Section was added in the early 1800’s after the County Seat was moved to Centreville.
On that day Queenstown was my final stop, but I wanted to add one more photo and that is of the Waterman’s Monument in Grasonville. This shot was also done in May, only two years earlier in 2018.
