Betterton Beach

So far August is off to a Bad Start. I have been busy working with and photographing a couple of events for the past several weeks. I have post a few photos from them on here. But have missed a couple of “Photo of The week” Thursday and I believe even a Sunday post.

I suppose when put together a few shots from these events they are a little like a ‘Drive with Steve’.

So here goes!

Chainsaw Art at the Fair
I am very active with the Kent County 4-H as one of their indoor exhibits chairs (Photography) and I try to photograph as much of their County Fair as I can. One of the vendors at this year’s fair, actually he’s been to a number of the past fairs, is a Chainsaw artist. This was part of his display.

Sunset in Greensboro
I have been a part of the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce for nearly two years and I help them out as much as I can. It’s reciprocal they have helped me a lot too. I was planning on being at an event that supports non-profits in Caroline County last year. I couldn’t since it fell during the same time as the Kent County Fair. This year I was able to photograph their Annual Duck Derby. I captured this Sunset at Greensboro park during the Duck Derby

Rides at the County Fair
I attended the Grand Opening of the Caroline-Dorchester County Fair and took a photo of one of the amusement rides ath the Fairground in Denton.

Betterton Beach
This past Saturday, the 1st Saturday in August now has two events, one during the day and the other in the evening, that I attend.

Betterton, which during the early 20th Century was a Summer Resort. During the days before the Chesapeake Bay was opened in 1952, Steam Ships would carry folks from the cities to Chesapeake Bay Beach resort towns. A favorite was Betterton. The town is still home to many summer residents, but the resort aspects of the town now is small. One the 1st Saturday in August the town celebrates its Heritage with a festival that includes a small town parade and vendors.

Celebrating Heritage
The sponsor for the event is the Betterton VFC, and they have put out a commemorative beer mug. I try each year to do this photo as a cover photo for my FB post for the festival.

Sunset at the Beach
As my High School was approaching its 50th Anniversary, a group of us got together in 2019 to throw an All Alumni Reunion. We had a fantastic 1st and was planning for the 2nd in 2020. With all going on that year we did finally have our 2nd All Alumni reunion, shortly the school opened for the 51st year. This year we celebrated a half century of graduates. The Sunset at the beach last night wasn’t the greatest, but with friends around you it was great.

As I continue along doing the best that I can, I do want to Thank all of my visitors.

About the Sunday Posts

Nearly three years ago I began doing a series of posts I called “Drives with Steve” on my photography Website, SGAtkinson.com. The idea was to take a drive from my home in Chestertown to an randomly selected location and take photographs along the way.

This eventually turned into the “Points of Interest” series. Along the way I’ve captured a pretty wide range of photos.

For the past several months I have been doing posts on each Sunday that I have been terming,”Drives with Steve” and have tried to have recent one every week. Over these past few there has been a few things that have made these weekly trips difficult to do. One of the biggest has been, in a word, inflation. Especially the price of gas. The cost for these trips have nearly doubled.

I have decided to only do one “Drives with Steve” post a month, on the first Sunday of the Month. What will be appearing on the other Sundays?

“Points of Interest” on the Second Sunday, “Common Series” on the Third Sunday and “Over the Years on the Fourth Sunday.

My Thanks goes out to all who are constant visitors. I am grateful for all of the support I am receiving.
